Application for consultant approval

Applying for approval and inclusion on the Business Advocacy Fund's list of approved consultants is very simple. The first step is to download the form. Download application form

Individual approval

Note that approval is for individual consultants. BAF is very happy to list more than one consultant working together in a firm of consultants, but each must submit an application form.

Contact details

We need your full contact details. These should include mobile phone and e-mail. If you have a website please provide that as well and we will include a link from our database. We will not divulge mobile phone numbers on the database.

Description of consultancy

Please give us, as concisely as you can, and in no more than 150 words, a description of you as a consultant. This will be included in the public database and will be used by BMOs in their initial selection of consultants to tender for individual assignments. In addition, it would be helpful if you can provide a CV.

Experience, education and development

We would like to know how long you have been working as a consultant. We would also like to know, briefly, about your education. For example, if you have a degree, please tell us the subject and place of study. We would also like to know about your experience in undertaking research and writing reports. For example, tell us how long you have been undertaking research, how you learnt the skills to undertake research, whether you have been on report writing courses, etc.

Referees

One of the best indicators of good consultancy is satisfied clients. Please provide names and contact details for two clients with whom you have worked in the last year.

Professional indemnity insurance

Best practice requires that consultants should hold professional indemnity insurance. We recognise that this is not yet widespread in Kenya, so holding insurance is not a condition of approval. However, we would like to know if you do have PI insurance and, if so, would like a copy of the certificate.

Annual accounts

We want to be assured that consultants and consultancies are sufficiently reliable to complete an assignment once started. One of the best ways of assessing this is to review accounts and we ask for two years of accounts. If you do not have two years of accounts, then please call BAF to discuss alternative evidence. If there is more than one consultant applying from the same consultancy firm, we only require one set of accounts.

Reports for clients

When you submit your application form, please also provide us with a copy of a report that you have completed for a client within the last 12 months. This report should reflect the work that you would like to undertake with BAF supported business member organisations. If you intend to undertake research, then we would like to see a research report; if you will assist in writing policy position statements, then we would like to see an example of a policy position statement; if you will help with strategy or service development, then a report of recommendation to teh client would be appropriate. If you hope to assist clients in a number of areas, then we will want to see an example for each area of work. We undertake to treat all reports confidentially. We will assess reports against the standards (see consultant home page ). Research reports and policy position papers written for BAF assisted clients will be made available publicly; reports on work to develop sustainability will be kept confidential.

Continuous assessment

Note that after every assignment, we will ask the client to review your work and we will also review your outputs against our standards. You will need to maintain the minimum standard to remain on the approved list. We also ask that you co-operate with external evaluators that BAF appoints from time to time and whose role is to evaluate the impact achieved by the BMOs that BAF has supported. In signing the form, you are consenting to these requirements.
