Opportunities for consultants

Many of the BMOs who apply for financial support are also in need of a range of skills and expertise which they can only find externally.

Advocacy grants

BMOs seeking support to undertake advocacy and dialogue may look for consultants who can assist in undertaking research on their behalf, either to identify issues or to understand issues that have already been identified, to write the results of research into concise but comprehensive research reports, and to prepare brief but compelling policy position papers.

Sustainability grants

BMOs seeking support to undertake sustainability projects and develop income generating services may require consultancy support to assist with strategic thinking, business planning, service development, financial forecasting, marketing etc.

Approved consultants

We recognise the importance of well researched and well argued policy position papers and want to assist all BMOs to do this consistently. We have therefore decided to create a database of approved consultants. BMOs will be required to use consultants that have been approved. The objective of approval is to ensure that consultants understand what is required of them, so are less likely to have work rejected, and that they are able to achieve the standard expected. There is no requirement to be approved before being selected by a BMO as the 'preferred' consultant, but there is a requirement to be approved before the BMO can sign a contract. The list of approved consultants will be made available on the website. We anticipate that as the list grows, this will become a valuable resource for BMOs who are looking for consultancy support.

Approval process

If you would like to seek approval by the Business Advocacy Fund and to be included on our list of approved consultants, please download the application form, complete it, and return it with a copy of a recent report that you have prepared for a client. We will review the application within a week and will let you know whether you have been successful. Consultant approval process

Other support

BMOs without appropriate expertise are encouraged to sub-contract to consultants. Whilst there is no requirement to use them, we have provided a model contract and model terms of reference, to assist BMOs. These are available both as PDFs and Word documents.
